Cellular/GPS Signal Analysis -
PCME Level 3
The purpose of this two-day hands-on class is to introduce
participants to basic cellular and GPS concepts and definitions
and to learn techniques for analyzing information in Call Detail
Records and data stored on GPS devices. Other cellular topics
include network tracing concepts, historical versus live
tracking, and legal procedures for obtaining carrier record
information. Additional GPS topics include an examination of
waypoint and tracklog data, acquisition of data from various
devices, and legal/privacy issues.
Participants will use Device Seizure, Point 2 Point, Microsoft
Excel, and other freely available online software to analyze
Call Detail Records from various vendors and GPS data obtained
from a variety of devices. The focus will be on graphical and
summary statistics that could be used in court and the
preparation and presentation of tracking data. Participants will
work to analyze several real-world practical examples.
The analytical techniques presented in this course might be used
to prove where a suspect was at the time a crime was committed,
confirm an alibi, or even settle a civil case. The theory behind
each concept will be presented. However, the emphasis will be on
sound, practical analysis.
This is the third, required course offered by Paraben as part of
PCME certification.
Both days of training are designed to allow the student to
understand the theory behind each concept and then to
practically apply that knowledge.
